Akira Yamagata is a Japanese concert pianist. He is a dreamer with great love for beauty and songs. His warm, sincere sounds and agogics created by deep breathing form the core of his performance and captivate the audience as well as co-performers.
He started playing the piano at the age of three and singing at fourteen. In 2000, he won the first and special prizes in the piano division of the12th Takarazuka Vega Music Competition. He has completed a master's course at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts.
As a soloist, he has performed many piano concertos with different orchestras. In 2013, he was invited by the Romanian National Opera Orchestra Constanta to play Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. This was his European debut.
On top of his solo activities, he engages in ensemble performance with players of various instruments and singers. To further pursue possibilities of expression, he also actively participates in collaboration transcending genres and artistic fields.
